How
to Become a Plumbing Apprentice
An
apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to earn while
you learn, providing the dual benefit of gaining a nationally
recognised qualification whilst being paid as you work.
Over the course of your four year apprenticeship, you
will work to achieve the SVQ level 3 in MES Domestic Plumbing. Modern Apprenticeships are a combination
of work-based and college/training centre training and you will spend approximately 36 weeks at college spread over the first three years of your apprenticeship.
The programme is designed to
train apprentices in all aspects of domestic plumbing
and heating and is "employer lead" which means you need to find an employer who will take you on as an apprentice. You can search for plumbing firms here or you can use Yellow Pages or other directories.
SNIPEF Training Services acts as the Managing Agent &
Training Provider for the Modern Apprenticeship (MA) in
Plumbing in Scotland.
In Northern Ireland, Apprentice training is managed by
PMST, a company set up by SNIPEF and BEST the training
agency of the HVCA.
Summit Skills is the sector skills council for the Building
Services Sector and they are responsible for developing
the content of the apprenticeship training programme.
